Best for: Schengen base for nomads who want Alps + Mediterranean within a single country.

Slovenia rolled out its DNV in 2025 and immediately became one of the most distinct Schengen options — the country fits the Alps, the Adriatic, and a small but credible city in Ljubljana inside a 4-hour drive. Costs are mid-range Schengen (cheaper than Italy, more expensive than Croatia). Internet and infrastructure are quietly excellent.
