Field notes
Bulgaria's Schengen accession in 2024 reset the math — you can now do all-Schengen circuits without the visa-headache that used to kneecap Sofia. Center, Lozenets, and Studentski Grad are the typical bases. Pricing stays low because demand still hasn't fully caught up with the post-accession reality.
Vitosha mountain at the city's edge means slightly cooler temperatures than further inland. Cold winters with regular snow, hot dry summers, mild shoulders. Best window May–Jun, Sep–Oct.
