Field notes

Indonesian island just east of Bali, across the Lombok Strait — wilder, less developed, structurally cheaper. Senggigi (the original tourist beach), Kuta Lombok (the southern surf coast), and the Mandalika circuit (the new MotoGP-track-driven development zone) are the typical long-stay zones. Indonesia E33G applies. The structural draws are Mount Rinjani trekking (Indonesia's #2 volcano, 3,726m), the Gili Islands offshore (snorkeling and diving on three small no-vehicle islands), and a Sasak-Muslim cultural texture distinct from Bali's Hindu majority. The 2018 earthquake caused real damage; rebuild is mostly complete.

Tropical (Lesser Sunda Islands) — defined wet/dry pattern offset slightly from Java. Dry austral-winter (April–October) is the postcard working window with bright sun and lower humidity. Wet austral-summer (November–March) brings daily afternoon thunderstorms. Sea-water temperatures stay swimmable year-round. Lombok sits south of the main Indonesian volcanic-eruption risk corridor.
