Field notes

Puglian capital on the Adriatic Sea — Italy's gateway to the Balkans (overnight ferries to Greece, Albania, Montenegro). Bari Vecchia (the dense walkable Old Town with whitewashed houses and pasta-making nonnas in the streets), Murat (the modern grid-planned commercial center), and Polignano a Mare (the cliff-edge village 35km south) are the typical anchors. Same Italian DNV. The structural draws are Adriatic-sea geography, proximity to the trulli-village Itria Valley (Alberobello, Locorotondo, Ostuni 60-90 min south), and meaningfully cheaper rents than Rome or Milan.

Mediterranean (Puglia) — meaningfully drier than the Tyrrhenian coast (Naples, Rome) because of the Adriatic-side rain-shadow effect from the Apennines. Winter (December–February, 10–12°C average) is mild. Summer (June–August, 23–26°C average) is hot and dry. Spring and autumn are the cleanest working windows.
