Field notes

Bigger and less polished than neighboring Lagos but with the same Algarve climate and noticeably cheaper rents. Praia da Rocha is tourist-heavy; the city center is more livable for stays over a month. D8 and Schengen apply the same way. Off-season (October–April) is when the rents drop and the place actually feels Portuguese rather than British-pub-stripped.

Algarve is sunnier and warmer than Lisbon — winter days are frequently sunny in the 15–18°C range. Summer (July–August) is hot but coastal-moderated (24–25°C peak), drier than Mediterranean Spain. The shoulders are extended and gentle. Off-season tourism still real but the climate is the structural draw.
