South Sinai dive town that grew from a Bedouin fishing village into one of Egypt's most established nomad-and-diver bases. Lighthouse, Lagoona, and Mashraba are the three walkable beachfront areas — Lagoona is the longer-stay-cheaper option, Lighthouse is busier and closer to the dive shops. Cost-of-living is half of what Sharm or Hurghada charge for the same beach and visibly better water. Egypt's e-visa is straightforward (30 days, extendable in-country); no formal DNV. Coworking is still thin but Wi-Fi at most cafés is solid after 2024–2025 buildouts. The Blue Hole and Eel Garden are world-class dives 10 minutes from town.

Editorial estimates. Not financial advice. The 4% rule is a planning anchor, not a guarantee — sequence-of-returns risk and tax-jurisdiction friction (US-LLC / FEIE / state residency) can move the real number meaningfully. See our expat tax directory for the cross-border side of the math.
