Japan Digital Nomad Visa
The Japanese DNV launched in 2024 grants a 180-day single window from entry — no extensions, no in-country renewal. Enter your arrival date below and we’ll show your remaining days.

Your entry date
The Japanese DNV grants a single 180-day stay from your date of entry. Unlike the Schengen 90/180 rule, this is a fixed window: you cannot extend in-country, and re-entering on the same DNV does not reset the 180-day clock until the visa is renewed (and renewal generally requires re-applying from outside Japan).

How the rule works
The DNV grants a single 180-day stay that begins on your entry day. Both your entry day and your departure day count. You can leave and re-enter Japan during the 180-day window, but the clock keeps running — leaving and coming back does not reset it.
Income & eligibility
Requires income of approximately ¥10 million / year (~$65–70K USD) and private health insurance covering Japan. Restricted to nationals of countries with tax treaties with Japan and visa-waiver agreements. The DNV does not lead to long-term residence; you cannot register for resident-only services like national health insurance.
After the 180 days
You must leave Japan. The DNV cannot be renewed from inside Japan, and you cannot apply for a fresh DNV until you’ve been outside Japan for 6 months. For longer stays, look at standard work visas, the Highly Skilled Professional visa, or the spouse-of-Japanese-national route.
What this isn’t
Not legal or immigration advice. Japan’s Immigration Services Agency is the authoritative source — always confirm your status with them before making travel decisions. For complex situations (overlapping visas, pending applications, treaty questions), see our visa services directory.
