Aberdeen is Scotland's third-largest city and Europe's oil-and-gas capital — the deepwater port that serves the North Sea oil fields drove a 1980s-2010s boom now winding down as the industry transitions to offshore wind. The granite-built city center (locally called the Granite City) and the modern Marischal College are the central anchors; Old Aberdeen (the medieval university quarter) is the small walkable historic core. The UK has no Digital Nomad Visa — Standard Visitor Visas (6 months max) or Skilled Worker routes only. The structural draws: post-oil cost decline (rents are dropping faster than other UK cities), Highland access via the A93 north, and a serious local food scene (Cullen skink, Aberdeen Angus beef country).
