Pucón sits on the shore of Lake Villarrica in Chile's Lake District (Región de la Araucanía), 8 hours south of Santiago. The active Villarrica volcano looms 20 km south and is climbable year-round (with guide) — that summit-and-glissade is the iconic Pucón experience. Outside summit-bagging the town is built around hot springs (Termas Geométricas is the famous one, 75 km away), kayaking, and the Lake District's microbreweries. Internet is variable — main-town apartments work, lakefront cabins often don't. Best for 1-3 month adventure-base stays; longer nomads usually move on after the volcano summit, the trekking circuit, and the hot springs.

Editorial estimates. Not financial advice. The 4% rule is a planning anchor, not a guarantee — sequence-of-returns risk and tax-jurisdiction friction (US-LLC / FEIE / state residency) can move the real number meaningfully. See our expat tax directory for the cross-border side of the math.
